Written by: Vern Francis (Way Back Inn Board member and volunteer extraordinaire)

Way Back Inn relies on the support of many organizations, groups, churches and individuals to keep our eleven homes in good working order and safe for our guests.  We are blessed by the generosity of time, money and materials by all of these sources of support.

The weekend of April 17th, Way Back Inn had the generous volunteer help from two different Church groups. A group from the Kent United Methodist Church who painted the interior of one of our two bedroom houses in Tukwila. The second group was Mars Hill Church in Bellevue.  The Church furnished trenching equipment, and installed underground wiring for a security light at a Tukwila unit, and install drainage pipe in our Kent Unit.

A good example of the generosity of our volunteers is Brett Jantzen, President of 203Group Construction. He had been a volunteer in the work party from Mars Hill Church.  During informal discussions about what WBI provides and what we try to accomplish each year in upgrading and improving our units, I mentioned the desire, when more funding is available,  to gravel a turnaround providing easier access to our Barn that holds our excess furniture.  We use the furniture to outfit our units, and also make this furniture available to our guests when they leave our programs.

A few days after the work party, Brett called and said he would like to bring in a couple of loads of gravel and have his crew spread it around.  All I needed to do was show him exactly where it should go.  I couldn’t believe the offer, as it had been on the to-do list for a couple of years.  Brett said he was impressed with the work we did, the effort we put in, and wanted to help where he could.  This generosity and commitment is greatly appreciated.

Our Homes

March 31, 2010

Way Back Inn maintains 11 homes for homeless families with children. We provide much more than just a roof over their heads. Everything from dishes and beds, to toothbrushes and linens. We even provide cleaning supplies and laundry detergent.  Some of the families we help come with almost nothing but their clothes and a few personal effects. We try to make the homes feel as comfortable as possible to give the families a little time to catch their breath and start to get their feet back on solid ground.

A Thank You

December 1, 2009

Thank you to all of those who supported Way Back Inn and brought in the flyer for Community Support Night at Claim Jumper on the 16th.  We were able to raise $500 in a single nights fundraiser. Thank You!

A Thank You also goes out to all of you who keep those individual donations coming in. While we may not have a lot of donors, we really depend on those who send support as a vital part of our budget. We thank you for your donations during the Holidays and all through out the year.  Please remember that your donations will help make the Holidays warmer, safer, and more special for homeless children and their families.

On November 19th remember to eat at ClaimJumper restaurant in Tukwila. They are donating 15% of total bills of customers who bring in the event flyer. November 15th is the date of the Supermall Magical Night of Giving. The Inn in Ocotober

October 7, 2009

October is a busy month here at Way Back Inn. The 17th finds us participating in Macy’s Shop for a Cause event. If you want to buy a $5.00 ticket to get extra sales all day long on the 17th just contact us at 425-432-6766. The offer is good at any Macy’s in the country and the entire $5 goes directly to Way Back Inn.

The Kennedy High School students spread gravel, organized the barn, and did general yard clean up at Hartnett Manor. The kids work on various projects at Way Back Inn the first Saturday of every month during the school year.

Our newest unit, Riverton Cottage, in Tukwila is up  and running with a family in residence. Our lease goes family to family but we hope to have the unit for an extended amount of time.
